Sausage
Cooked sausages are high in fat, saturated-fat and sodium. Smoked sausages have been linked with some cancers because of the smoking process. More than 70% of the calorie in an average pork sausage are fat calorie. Low-fat sausages are less fatty but sill contain over half their calories as fat.
Use of Sausage
Sausages may be served in a bread roll as a hot dog or as an ingredient in dishes such as stews and casseroles. Sausage without casing is called sausage meat and can be fried or used as stuffing for poultry, or for wrapping foods like Scotch eggs. Similarly, sausage meat encased in puff pastry is called a sausage roll.
